"The differences between mailing lists, discussion groups, online forums etc are subtle but real! There are two main places where you can get a lot of information about mailing lists (A mailing list has to be subscribed to, and all mail is sent to your email address).

At http://www.lsoft.com/lists/list_q.html which is the L-Soft List web page, you can enter a search term and it will give you a list of lists (which are hosted on a LISTSERV) - i.e. enter 'Cancer' and you will get 48 different lists. Each of these has a link so that you can get more information about the list, and subscription information. You can find Swallows through this. The other lists which I am a member of are "Amazon - Alternative Therapies for Breast Cancer", the "Breast Cancer Discussion list" and "Herb"

The other site for searchable lists is http://www.liszt.com

Another site that I find interesting is http://www.onelist.com I have joined a couple of lists here this week, to see what they are like (aboutherbs and breastcancer)

Then there are the online forums - message boards - where do you find out about these? Wish I knew! There's another one I've visited at Cancer Information & Support International, That's at http://www.cancer-info.com/index.html

So how do people find Swallows (to discuss complementary therapies for breast cancer)? The short answer is to go to http://www.lsoft.com/lists/list_q.html

or go to the Swallows home page
